some things to try out, bearing in mind that what works for one need not be work for all
- clean out your ghost followers.
- posting a crapload of links in stories also makes the app mad for all these reasons covered here.
- the more stories you post, the less likely it is people will engage all the way through. you can test this by doing a full story reset & not posting for 24hrs, then for the next week, posting 1 story a day, 3, 5, 7, 9, and so on. you’re also welcome to try other increments. pay attention to the views 23 hours after you posted the first one, and where the numbers seem to significantly drop.
- users who regularly watch your first 1-2 stories and then X out or swipe to the next person's stories, are actively hurting your reach, as this tells the app they are bored. they probably have no idea they are doing this, so don't take it personally. if they meaningfully engage with your content otherwise, you can hide your stories from them, otherwise, you can remove them as a follower.
- resharing carousels: pick one slide, not multiple slides. if its a commonly discussed topic like say, pinkwashing, i’ll usually look to see if there’s any information in the post thats new to me, and share that, as i know the people watching my stories probably already have a decent basic understanding of the subject.
- unfortunately, sharing posts from journalists specifically does move the shadowban needle significantly. it's just something to be aware of. for me, if my goal that day is getting visibility to a fundraiser, i avoid moving the needle extra.
